Dubai World Cup draws a massive and a competitive field at the Meydan – part 2
The 5-year-old Marco Botti trained, Planteur, is way out of his league here, thus the odds of 20 to 1, and he hasn’t been seen in action since September last year, and the Danehill Dancer colt has a history of not doing well of layoffs.
The Eclipse Award winning 3-year-old filly of 2011, and the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic winner,
Royal Delta will be representing American in the Dubai World Cup, and she is exiting an 8 length defeat in the Sabin Stakes last time out to winner Awesome Maria. But that’s okay, because she last the Grade 1 Beldame Stakes before going on
to win the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic. She has only raced once over at synthetic surface, and went on to win at Keeneland. The winner at 1 ¼ miles in the Alabama Stakes last year, Royal Delta has been declared as the 8 to 1 choice.
Last year’s third place finisher in the Dubai World Cup, Monterosso, is back for more, but the horse hasn’t run much since his three quarters of a length defeat in last year’s Dubai World Cup. He has raced only once since then, exiting a
4th place finish in the Al Maktoum Challenge, which served as a prep race for today’s race. He will break from post number 8, with the odds of 10 to 1.
In the same race, Silver Pond, last out edged past Monterosso in the Al Maktoun Challenge, and that is the only he for the horse as he is sent as the 20 to 1 favourite.
The runner up of the last year’s Dubai World Cup is back, and this time with slightly better odds of 8 to 1, as
Transcend will break from post number 10.
The dark horse of the Dubai World Cup undoubtedly is the well accomplished,
Capponi, who has set the synthetic tracks ablaze throughout his career, winning 4 races out of the 7 he participated in over the surface. After a dominating performance in the local prep race, the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3, Capponi won the race
by 4 lengths, and with the odds of 8 to 1, his chances are looking good to end up at the winner’s circle at the end of the day.
