Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso to make a comeback in the Betfair Brigadier Gerard Stakes
It seems that Godolphin’s Monterosso will return to the track at Sandown as he is scheduled to compete in the Betfair Brigadier Gerard Stakes on 31st May, 2012.
Monterosso, winner of the Dubai World Cup, who is under the training of Mahmood Al Zarooni, will race after a lay-off since the mega victory was his last race.
The son of Dubawi, out of mare Porto Roca, was mounted by jockey, Mickael Barzalona in the Group 1 Dubai World Cup Sponsored By Emirates Airline, where he notched the victory from Capponi, by a margin of three lengths, and succeeded in the world’s richest
race.
Via Twitter, owners Godolphin stated:
"Monterosso & Hunter's Light among Brigadier Gerard Stakes contenders."
The talented five-year-old has competed in fifteen starts over the course of his career and emerged successful seven times. After gaining such a grand victory at Meydan, he is expected to crush the competition and earn the second victory of the season.
The bay horse also landed a massive victory in the Group 2 Dubai City Of Gold Sponsored by Emirates Airline on 3rd March, 2011, where he defeated, Calvados Blues, by
1¼ lengths.
If the ground suits him in this race, he will be good to go.
Godolphin’s Opinion Poll will also compete against twelve other runners at Sandown on 31st May, 2012, in the Betfair Henry II Stakes, where he will attempt to succeed over a distance of 2 miles and 78 furlongs.
The son of Halling, out of mare Ahead, also competed in the Dubai World Cup when he bagged a victory in the
Dubai Gold Cup Sponsored By Al Tayer Motors over Marco Botti’s charge Joshua Tree by ¾ length.
The six-year-old gelding has past experience at Sandown since he previously competed in the
Coral Marathon Stakes (Registered As The Esher Stakes) on 3rd July, 2010, where he ridden by Philip Robinson and he finished in third place.
Mahmood Al Zarooni’s charge returns to Sandown with more experience and a better form, these two factors combined will give him the leverage he needs and might land him the victory.
