Dear Friends,

I have just recieved an offer from a Dubai Based Consultancy Firm . I need to understand that what are the rentals for a 1 BR apartment in various localities in Dubai. i do not wish to travel from any neighbouring emirates to Dubai. My office wud be in Knowledge Village. Kindly advise me on the localities near knowledge village and the rentals for a 1BRK apartment there. Is it a very upmarket locality ? I also need to know as whether it would be possible survive in Dubai without a Car. I dunno to drive as well as I do not have a license. My salary would be 11500 dirhams. Would it be possible to survive and save in Dubai with this salary as my wife would be a Housewife. What are the various questions I must ask my prospective employer in this regard?

  1. Dubai Marina is a nice area and is quite close to Knowledge Village.  Rentals start from about 90,000 aed per year.  It is better if you have a car but taxis are cheap in Dubai or alternatively you could see if you could get a car share or car lift to work.  Can you survive on 11500 aed - that will depend on your standard of living.  There is a website www.dubizzle.com have a look on there.  You'll find it interesting.

  2. This is not a lot for two people who have to pay for their own accommodation.  Dubai Marina will be too expensive for you.  I can suggest Discovery Gardens which will be a 10 drive for you to work.  This also is not cheap though.  A studio would run you about 50,000 AED and a one bed would run you about 70,000.  You should be able to sponsor your wife, then she can get a job.  You could stay in International City, which would only cost about half this amount, but it would take you about 1 hour, maybe 1 1/2 hours to get to work.  It doesn't seem like you'll have much to save.  Driving here is really crazy too, if your not a good driver, I wouldn't even attempt it.  I don't know what to ask your prospective employer.  It is very difficult to save and or survive in Dubai when you have to pay for your own accommodation and transportation.  Unless things are really bad for you where you are, I would recommend moving here unless, they can help with your accommodation or your wife can get a nice job.
