Dubawi Heights relentless in the Yellow Ribbon Stakes at Santa Anita as she continues to pile on the wins this season
The 4-year-old Simon Callaghan trained filly, Dubawi Heights has had a near to perfect 2011 season, and she added to her already impressive score by winning the Grade 1, $250,000 Yellow Ribbon Presented by Emirates Airline Stakes at Santa Anita on 1 October,
2011.
She not only did herself a huge favour by winning the Yellow Ribbon Stakes, but also she gave jockey Joel Rosario his third grade 1 victory of the day at Santa Anita.
The British bred filly is the daughter of Dubawi, out of Rosie’s Posy was coming off a second place finish in the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park on 13 August, 2011, at about 1 3/16 miles as she finished behind the winner Stacelita.
The Yellow Ribbon Stakes drew a well matched field of nine fillies and mares, and Dubawi Heights settled just off the flanks to the pace setter Turning Top after breaking on the top.
The 2 to 1 favourite crept on the outside and assumed herself well in position to launch an attack any time when the pace setter slightly shows signs of fatigue.
Turning Top managed to carve pedestrian fractions of 24.14 seconds for the early quarter mile pole, then going in 48.81 seconds for the half mile marker and covering six furlongs in 1 minute and 13.28 seconds.
Dubawi Heights was just a strong urge away from Joel Rosario to the lead, while Malibu Pier tracked her valiantly just off the pace. Expectedly Rosario tightened the screws, as Dubawi Heights pushed forward a little more and increased the pressure on the
stubborn pace setter, Turning Top.
Got even with Turning Top in the mid stretch, and the pair opened up quickly, while the Martin Garcia ride Harmonious made a good run from way back, but got snubbed by Cozie Rosie.
Dubawi Heights ran a measured race under Joel Rosario and the pair covered the 10 furlong distance in 2 minutes and 0.52 seconds.
Dubawi Heights improved her career record to 5 wins out of 14 starts, with 4 runners up positions and a lone third place finish with the earnings of $947,696 after collecting $150,000 for the Yellow Ribbon triumph.
