Question:

Dubbed anime voices?

So I have watched a few dubbed animes and I have to wonder...why do they always have the worse voices for the characters? I started out watching DBZ, sailor moon, and Inuyasha. Ok I think most of the characters' voices in DBZ and Inuyasha were great (especially Vegeta, Trunks, and Sesshomaru).

I have unfortunately stumbled on some dubbed anime and most of the voices were completely annoying especially the girls!! They are all loud and whiny! I can't for the life of me figure out what the companies that are putting out the dubs are thinking when casting voices! Any thoughts?

  1. I think it's just cause American voice actors basically suck. Japanese ones are better trained... and frankly... I think they try harder. xD

And a lot of the really good actors do a lot of voice training.... while voice actors here in the US (mostly) do not... I stopped watching dubbed Anime a looong time ago when I found out how much better subs were. =3

  2. To be honest, Japanese have the best voice actors, especially because voice actors there are respected and many are singers.

I used to watch english dubbed at first but compared to the japanese voice acting, english sucks. So I just watch subbed

In America, voice actors aren't very respected as they believe it's a lowly job, so they can't find talented people. Also, sometimes American people try to find people who has a similar voice as the japanese casts, but it almost always turns out horrible (as you have noticed XD)

So just watch japanese voice acting with subs if you want the best out of anime

  3. When compared to Japanese dubbing, American, just an example, tend to be lofty and don't place proper effort on the procedure. In Japan, voice acting is considered more mainstream than it is in other countries and because the anime industry is still small and niche outside of Japan it could affect the funding and quality. As a matter of fact, most voice actors in the U.S have to keep up with a second job, whereas in Japan they are considered part of true stardom.

Another problem could be the voice actors and seiyus themselves, because, again, since anime is bigger in in it's country of origin's media the seiyus are formally trained and thus are more skilled. There are only a couple of voice actors in America that are highly reputed for their work and even they're unknown by non-anime fans.

In America there are only a few studios, such as ZRO Limit, that take their work seriously and often produce some of the best dubs, but in general it's usually always a hit or miss.
