  1. When I visited in 1969, we took a day-trip by bus to Glendalough, a ruined monastery founded by St. Kevin.  I forget where else we stopped, but the bus driver was fun as he pointed out other landmarks along the way.

  2. this might sound like a weird one, but the dublin ghost bus tour is brilliant.  It brings you around all the "haunted" areas of dublin. when  i went on it, the tour guide was brilliant.

  3. Belfast is an easy day trip and a lovely city. The mountains of Mourne in Co. Down are another lovely one. Newgrange in Co. Meath, you could spend a whole day there on the prehistoric monuments. Trim castle, to see where Braveheart was filmed. Clonmacnoise on the Shannon is only about 2 hrs west of dublin and it's amazing. The National Stud and Japanese gardens in Kildare town are well worth a visit, go for a walk on the curragh where legend says games of hurling with 100 players on each team used to go on for days.

there are millions of places to see. The Reader's Digest guide to Ireland is by far the best and most detailed book to get, you'll be able to plan trips to suit your own tastes then.

  4. Dublin city - Do the red bus tour very interesting. Kilmainham jail is also very nice.

Powerscourt in wicklow is lovely for a nice day out.

A bit further afield try the Japanese gardens in Kildare really lovely day out. Hope these help.
