  1. Park alongside Phoenix Park for free during the day and move your car into a garage overnight for security.  The Jury's Christchurch and a garage near the Statoil petrol station on the Usher quay (which is near the Christchurch Jurys....it is down the hill from it and towards the Liffey).  I think the hours are from 11pm-7 ( i could be wrong, however it will be posted).  Be sure to move your car first thing in the morning to get a good free spot!  You can then take the bus back to town from Phoenix Park or walk.  Any bus on the eastbound side of the quays will drop you back into town.  The streets along the quays run one way--the side the garage is on is on the west-bound.

I am not sure what Dublin city centre is called in GPS terms, nevertheless, the main streets in city centre to look for are: Dame Street, O'Connell Street, Pearse Street, Westmoreland Street.  In Dublin, the streets change names.

Examples would be:High Street- Dame Street- College Green ; and S. Great George Street-Aungier Street-Wesford Street-Camden Street-Richmond St- Rathmines Rd.

  2. Driving in Dublin City could drive the most patient person to insanity.  Dublin's City Centre is called Dublin City Centre! O'Connell Street is most well known as the central point in the city.

There are a number of municpal and private car parks in and around the city,  On street parking is also available but expect to pay a lot for both.  Clamping is operated.

The best way to get around the city is on foot.  To get to more out of the way parts use the Dart or Luas if possible.  Try to avoid buses that may get caught in the traffic or go the super extra annoyingly long scenic route!  I've included info links below.

  3. Driving in Dublin. Don't. The traffic is a nightmare, worse than London. Not many car parks either apart from Hotels.

the public transport (dart, Buses and trams) and taxis are the best way of getting around.

  4. If you are staying at a hotel in the city centre you could park there otherwise you could park at one of the shopping centres:

Northside: Ilac Centre or Jervis Street

Southside: St. Stephen's Green Shopping Centre

None of these are free unfortunately.

Parking is expensive and difficult to find everywhere else in the city centre.

If you are not staying in the city centre then you would be better to get a taxi or the bus as both are quite reasonable.
