Nah only joking, both have their attractions, I live near Dublin and have been to Budapest..Dublin IS rocking at the mo, Budapest is cheaper.

Dublin would be nice for culture, beer, food and entertainment.

Budapest would be nice for a relaxing if not confusing time as the language can be a problem unless you speak Hungarian. Also Hungary hasn't adopted the Euro yet so you'd get a better exchange rate in Dublin rather than on the Hungarian Forint.

doh is there any competion?  dublin of course.. budapest.. you got to be joking,, hung drawn a quarted for having a knees up in romania,  a night out in liverpool or dublin, on par with each other,,, . is your best bet

Dublin. It's a great time of year to go there. Good weather and good festivals etc. It may be a little expensive but you can stay in hostels or in a bed and breakfast outside the city. Go for it!

Go to Budapest.

My bloke is from a suburb of Dublin so we have visited both cities, and they are both fantastic places to visit in their own right.

However, if you hit Dublin in July, you will hit one of the prime stag/hen party times.  Fine if you're in one, not so great if you're not.

Me and my man went to Budapest last July and it was brilliant.  Our car broke down on arrival and we were stuck there for a week instead of the 2 days we had planned for it!  But it was lovely.

One tip though - stay near the Parliament building (this is the Pest side) as the pubs, restaurants and cafes are much nicer - the end near the big market is a total tourist trap and you will pay through the nose for very substandard food, whereas up the other end there is a slightly more bohemian feel, it's nearer the art galleries, museums and Heroes Square and generally you can walk everywhere from there (including the touristy bit if you want to get souvenirs etc - the market really is a must-see!).

You can go to Dublin out of season and benefit much more from it, but when we went to Budapest we had 27 degrees C weather and had no problem finding a hotel.

I recommend the NH Budapest hotel - if you can afford it, it's a 5 star (which is really like our 4 star rating) hotel with excellent service and really nice rooms, in a great area.

There are loads of hotels though so you should have no problem finding one.

Also if you go, make sure you stay in Pest, rather than in Buda, as this is where all the nightlife, shops and restaurants mainly are.  You can walk across or take a tram across one of the many bridges and go visit the Buda side whilst there.

Also many Hungarians in Budapest speak pretty good English so the language barrier is really not a problem.  Even better if you speak German because many of them speak that if they don't speak English.

All hotels speak English though so you should be well looked after.

Dublin (Linn Dubh or Baile Atha Cliath)...nice city but full of international brands Starbucks, McDonalds, increasinginly international high street big names shops too.  Terrible traffic. High high prices... I would go for Budapest as its jsut that little bit less westernised!

dublin definately, I'm from Dublin and I love nothin better then heading into the city on warm summers day and sitting in  a beer garden. Or if you want shopping exchange rate is brilliant for the sterling. Nightlife is just hopping at the moment never a dull moment in dublin on a night out.......enjoy and us dublin girls are hot haha

         Dublin, Galway, Cork, Ennis, Roscomon, Waterford, Kilarney, Oh, anywhere but Budapest, wherever that place is, they probably don't even have a St Patricks Day parade there either, never mind in July, stay in Ireland, more fun and better times to be had amongst people that can speak your own language. Yes stay here, we would only start to panic if you went to that Budapest place, Ireland is the greatest country on Earth, and we can beat Budapest at Rugby too, if they have a team, but if you must go to Budapest, hurry up and lets have you at home again, at least in time for the Galway Races............bye,......................
