  1. It might be easier to say where to avoid, such as Sean Mc Dermot st, Gardner st, ballymun, neilstown etc cause most places will be fine!  The goodish areas of  the south side of Dublin are  6,8,  & 20 and  4 &18 but they're very expensive.  The place names are Kimmage, Rathmines, Rathgar,  Chapelizod,  There are a lot of places rented there, so they have good bars and restaurants.  Dublin 22 and 24 might be a bit dodgy, but like everywhere there is good and bad in all. I live Co Dublin, in a place called Lucan, its fine here, you might get a better standard of accommodation for your money but its 12miles from the city, which is not much really, until you get to grips with Dublin traffic

I'm not so sure about the north side of the city, hopefully others will tell you places there

  2. No matter where you are renting in Dublin, you have to consider where you are working. The public transport is a bit of a nightmare in rush hour.

If you say where you are working, people can suggest suitable areas to rent.

There is a lot of snobbery in some parts of Dublin towards areas in the inner city and northside suburbs, but at the end of the day if it suits your budget and is handy for work, all places are much the same. The recent sudden rise in house prices has almost done away with 'bad' areas as all areas now have a mix of people, though snobs you will still find all over the place.

For the price you are talking you will not get somewhere on your own, except maybe a very small one bedroomed apartment outside the city centre. The best bet would be to get a house share. This means you can go for a much bigger place. Check www.daft.ie for others looking to share.

  3. Your best bet is to rent as far away from dublin as possible! They charge WAY over the odds for accommodation there! Believe me, I KNOW!!

Meath is only about an hour away if you have a car, and its only half the price. A house there, is the same price as a bedsit in Dublin!!
