  1. Be careful of Dublin itself.

  2. Temple bar is the most touristy spot in the city, I'd go for one night, just to see it, but there are plenty of good bars off Grafton Street that would be cheaper and less full of drunks where you might actually meet an Irish person.

I'm from here so its difficult for me to say whats a must as I don't see the city through a tourists eyes, but I heard our tourist board did a survey to see what people most enjoyed about Dublin, and the answer was 'meeting people from Dublin', which surprised me, but then again, i can understand why a lot of Dubliners would stay away from the city (see Temple bar and drunks on tour brigade for a start)

But to say Dublin full of smog is just not true.  But it is a city, and most cities can be the same in parts. I'd go to Kilmainham Gaol, for a bit of history, also the modern art museum (its near Kilmainham Gaol).  But I suppose the best advice is do the bus tour, according to my cousins from over seas its brilliant.

While your here Belfast is worth a visit too! But I love the west..the wildness of the place.

  3. I'm not sure, I've never been there, but my friend went, and she said it was not as good as she thought it would be.  She said that it was noisy, and dirty, and filled with smog.  Apparently, it's no different than say Minneapolis, or Chicago, or any sort of industrial city.

Have lots of fun, even if you do go to Dublin!

  4. Dublin has so much history, I don't know how you can avoid it.  If it's a time consideration and you're in the West, that makes sense.  But if you have the time and are in the vicinity, I think it's well worth it to take the time.

Ireland is a wonderful country.  Sure, there are plenty of other places to see.  But I wouldn't spurn Dublin just because there might be tourists there.

  5. To be honest I'd avoid Dublin altogether. That's not to diss Dublin but places like Derry, Galway, Waterford, and definitely Cork have a lot to offer the tourist/traveller.
