Ducati Team, Valentino Rossi hint at usage of aluminium chassis in future – MotoGP news
Ducati Team’s Filippo Preziosi and Valentino Rossi have hinted that the aluminium chassis can be used in the future Desmosedici.
Filippo Preziosi has recently indicated after Rossi’s suggestion that the unconventional carbon fibre chassis is likely to be replaced by an aluminium chassis. The complaint of having an uncompetitive pace was lodged by Valentino Rossi when he first rode
the Ducati Desmosedici at the Valencia test.
Since then Rossi has been struggling and giving feedback to improve the GP11 for better results. Reportedly, the Desmosedici lack the feel on front end and understeers a lot in corners.
Rossi said, “We speak a lot to try and improve this bike and I know that in Ducati they work a lot but I don’t know exactly about an aluminium frame or some other solution and especially when. For me one clever way is to work with two different ideas. You
can try to make some small difference to improve the performance but for me it will be clever for Ducati if they concentrate in something different, maybe in the future.”
After spending 11 races in the present MotoGP season and developing a new breed of Desmosedici GP11.1, Rossi still wants the Bologna factory to take a step and change the chassis. After a strong effort of the Italian rider, the factory is also looking forward
to test the different materials.
Although Rossi has not claimed any specific request to make a change in the GP11.1 but after conducting the post race test at Brno, the hints have been strong ever since.
The Aussie crew chief for Valentino Rossi, Jerry Burgess has also been suggesting the Ducati team that it would be more beneficial to test alternate options to gather extended information for performance comparison.
Burgess also added that the team needs more time for testing and more new components to gather information. A team with huge development budget can easily carry two or more parallel projects to help better understand the need.
Filippo Preziosi shared his views at the Brno post race test by saying that the team is vastly considering using new things which can possibly have a positive effect on the development. However, he said for the moment the main focus is to find different
levels of stiffness on other points and a little change in geometry.
