Ducati Team rider Nicky Hayden excited to race 1000cc prototypes in 2012 – MotoGP news
Ducati Team rider Nicky Hayden is excited to race aboard the 1000cc MotoGP prototypes in the 2012 season.
The American rider is not engaged in contract with Ducati for 2012 but he is still looking forward to having a go at the big engines.
Hayden is the last world champion of the 990cc era. The premier class downsized displacement to 800cc engines in 2007. This dropped the torque output and much developed electronics dulled the power sliding out of the corners.
Nicky Hayden said, “I'm excited. I'm looking forward to it a lot. I think everybody is. I think the new rules are going to be a lot better for the riders and the fans. I think it's going to be a lot better show.”
He also added that the 1000cc bikes might not be fast and ferocious as the 990cc were, because nowadays the electronics have developed a lot. During the 990cc era, the bikes were more basic with powerful engines which tended to slide in the corners and smoke
the rear tyres.
The Kentucky Kid said, “Now look more tame. From a distance and watching on TV, it looks easy. But a lot of things look easy from the couch watching on TV. With these bikes, if you truly want to be going real fast, you need to be riding them in-line, hooked
up and really flowing.”
For the next season, he hopes that the 1000cc bikes will bring back the fun with power slides. Hayden has an experience of dirt bike racing, so he has a good sense of controlling rear slides.
Commenting on the new 1000cc Ducati bikes Hayden said the machine is not tested in head-to-head competition with Honda and Yamaha, so the present situation is not yet clear. However, the team feels it is a good start in the way of development.
Considering the 2012 Ducati Desmosedici he feels the bike is in good shape and is eager to rider one in next season. At present, Hayden is moving to his home event at Indianapolis for the 12th MotoGP round.
