Ducati Team rider Nicky Hayden finishes Gran Premio d’Italia in tenth place – MotoGP news
Ducati rider Nicky Hayden squandered a good start to the eighth grand prix of the 2011 MotoGP season and finished in tenth place at the Gran Premio d’Italia on Sunday.
The American made a good start to the race and instantly jumped up to fifth place. However, his climb was short lived as he went wide into the corner following into the run off area and lost his advantage.
Hayden said, “We used a different spring combination in the clutch, and I got probably my best start of the year. I was up to fifth in the first couple of corners, and the bike felt good.”
After running wide, he joined the race at the last place and struggled through 23 laps to get a decent finish for his team’s home event. In the end, he made it to tenth place while his teammate Valentino Rossi gradually moved from 12th place to
finish at sixth place at the Mugello circuit.
Hayden commented on his mistake in the initial lap as he said that the tyres were doing well on dry tarmac. He said a little braking mistake in the first corner of the second lap made him to lose the position in the race. At the start, he thought that he
has rescued himself from the wide run but his GP11 was stuck in a bad section of the track.
After falling back to the last position, he fought back with determination and made it to the finish line in the 10th place.
Hayden added, “It’s easy to say now, but I think without that mistake, I could have done a really good race for the team and myself. The crowd was as good as I’ve ever seen it, and it was special to be here on a Ducati.”
The team is working on many things and it seems to be progressing in the right direction as every crewmember is working hard for the team’s progress. It is more than likely that the team will see benefits in future.
Though the Ducati team did not win but still both riders of the Italian team finished their race in decent places. The team is now looking forward to head to Germany for the next MotoGP round.
