Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi demands more progress for Desmosedici – MotoGP news
Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi demands his Italian manufacturer to further improve the Desmosedici GP in order to achieve better results in the second half of the 2011 MotoGP season especially after the problems at Laguna Seca.
Rossi said, “We have problems with the front, especially when the bike leans heavily, but we need bigger modifications to solve them: we'll see how long that takes. Following the Hondas and the Yamahas, you realise the difference is quite big.”
Rossi also claimed that he was able to sort a good package at Laguna Seca than the one used at Sachsenring. However, the Italian still hopes to make the Desmosedici a rider’s bike rather than a personal race bike.
However, as the race went on, Ducati riders’ duo Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden struggled to give decent results. At the moment, Rossi is fifth in the world championship points table with 108 points and aims to score 200 by the end of the season.
Vittoriano Guareschi, Ducati Team manager, claimed that one of the many problems was the new compound of Bridgestone tyres used this season.
Guareschi said, “Our bike is like handling an eel: you grab it from one side, but it slips away from the other side. The Desmosedici doesn't turn, and if it does it's not in a normal manner. On our bike the front Bridgestone tyres works differently compared
to the other bikes, and our riders lack feeling.”
The team manager further explained the situation created by the tyres. He said that they do not have any clue about the development of the tyres as the bike does not deliver a good feel to the rider aboard. He said there is a clear difference in the 2010
slicks and the tyres provided in the ongoing 2011 season.
Guareschi added that the rider feels lack of traction at front end and the bike drifts away while entering a corner.
The problem is highlighted when it comes to Nicky Hayden’s Desmosedici, as he is using the setup similar to the last season. The major issue is that the bikes lose grip and slide easily.
