Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi rested, Nicky Hayden to test GP12 at Jerez – MotoGP news
Ducati rider Valentino Rossi was sidelined for the Jerez test after being declared unfit. In his place, his teammate Nicky Hayden will conduct the final test day in the season for the 2012 Ducati MotoGP prototype, the Desmosedici GP12.
The Italian has gone through a detailed medical examination and has been diagnosed with hairline fracture on his left hand’s small finger.
Due to his physical condition, Rossi will not take part in the test. The Italian rider had a horrible crash during the recently held 2011 Japanese Grand Prix. Firstly, he hit Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha and then bounced back into Ben Spies while ending up in
the run off gravel.
A spokesperson from Ducati said, “Due to the severity of the pain and swelling in his left hand, the Italian on Tuesday underwent additional X-rays that revealed a hairline fracture at the arthrodesis of the first and second phalanx (performed following
a fall at Assen in 1995) of the pinky finger on his left hand. Rossi’s participation in the Australian Grand Prix on October 16 is not in doubt.”
Rossi had practiced well through the Japanese race weekend and was determined to score a good result. However, his race ended in misery with no points and his teammate Hayden also could not perform well.
Apparently, the Italian was declared clear from any kind of injury except a hard blow to his hand. Later Rossi experienced increasing pain and swelling. Due to his worsening condition, detailed x-rays were conducted which confirmed a fracture to his artificial
joint.
However, the team also confirmed that Rossi might not be able to test the GP12 at Jerez on Thursday but he will definitely appear in the Australian Grand Prix on October 16, 2011.
Nicky Hayden has also previously tested the GP12 at the Mugello post race test. Now he will be completing the final day.
Ducati has also arranged a plan to further carry out the testing of GP12. Recent World Superbike Champion, Carlos Checa will carry the test aboard GP12 to give his feedback on the machine and push it to the next level.
