Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi rules out chance to win a MotoGP event in 2011 season
Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi has claimed that his chances to win a MotoGP event in the ongoing 2011 season are very low.
In the last race at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the Italian was merely able to finish in the sixth position.
Rossi said, “I already take and face this problem, because from '96 I win minimum one race. In fact, I want to win one race also this year. But if don't snow [laughing], maybe is difficult. But is also, like I say, for me, I am always very realistically,
I don't like to speak about dream. I'm happy if we can fight with the second group. That is mean maybe sometimes also the podium. But I think with Stoner and Lorenzo this year, no way. But I hope I'm wrong.”
Considering his grand prix career start, since 1996 he has won at least a single event in every season he raced. In recent events, his aim has been to challenge the second pack of riders which includes compatriot Andrea Dovizioso, Ben Spies and Marco Simoncelli.
It could also help to finish on the podium.
In order to get close to the second riders’ pack, Rossi needs to shred ten seconds from his lap times which will require massive improvements in his Desmosedici.
Rossi has planned to focus on different aspects that can be improved within his bike. The electronics and chassis are the most important points to be focused at. Considering the new bike, it is better than GP11 but lacks the grip required to speed up, especially
the front end is very unstable so it makes it hard to turn the bike.
Rossi is also reportedly asking to completely change the chassis. Presently, the bike is installed with a stiffer carbon fibre chassis and the new one will be a softer aluminium chassis. The Italian rider also claimed that being a rider he solely cannot
solve the issues. He expects that the manufacturers have an appropriate solution to the problems he is facing.
