Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi terms Indianapolis Motor Speedway a tough track – MotoGP news
Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi is motivated to hit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but claims that it is a tough track to race on.
MotoGP will resume action with the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix on August 28, 2011.
The Italian rider won the debut MotoGP race at the IMS which took place in the 2008 season. After his win in 2008, he has not stood on the podium at Indy. The bumpy rough surface has been the issue in the past, but now Rossi hopes the new asphalt will provide
better racing conditions.
Valentino Rossi said, “Indy is a difficult circuit, and although it's not exactly one of my favourites, we'll see how we perform there with the Ducati. They resurfaced part of the track, so the conditions should certainly be better from that point of view.”
Presently the Italian veteran is fourth in the 2011 MotoGP world championship rankings ahead of Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa with an 8-point difference. Rossi has collected only one podium yet for his Ducati squad and for himself in the season.
Though the 2011 season has been a problem for Rossi but he is focused to improve. In order to do that, he developed a Ducati Desmosedici GP11.1 in the season and is working hard to progress further.
The seven-time world champion, Rossi said, “We made a little progress with the GP11.1's setup during the Brno GP, and we'll see if we can confirm them at this next race. Anyway, racing in America is always nice for me, as I enjoy both the atmosphere and
the fans, who are always very passionate.”
During the post race test at Brno, Rossi tested newly modified components on the front end of his GP11.1. The upgraded axle and the bottom of the front forks gave an instant better feel from the front tyre.
Rossi did race with upgraded parts at Brno. Meanwhile, teammate Nicky Hayden also confirmed the progress with upgrades at the Brno test. Rossi will race with upgrades at Indy while Hayden may have to wait for the new components.
