Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi to debut aluminium frame at Motorland Aragon – MotoGP news
Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi has declared that the he will be using an aluminium frame in his Desmosedici GP11.1 for the first time at Motorland Aragon.
Recently, he was arranged a test session with the FTR design and developed the frame for the Ducati machine.
Rossi said, “I will try one of the aluminium bikes tomorrow in practice. In Mugello the bike had better feeling and also the lap time was a little bit better, so we use this race as a test. The aluminium is different in shape from the carbon frame.”
The Italian rider claimed that it is not a full aluminium frame but a front section is built out of it. This event will be used as a testing and development period by the Ducati team for the aluminium frame. The rider also revealed that the shape differs
from its carbon fibre component.
However, the rider also added that the basic theme of the Ducati team is unchanged and only a part is rebuilt for improvement. The aluminium frame is a rebuilt of the original Ducati chassis previously made out of carbon fibre.
Rossi said, “It is in aluminium and not in carbon like before. The material is a question of time because we have to work to try and understand the bike and with aluminium you need a lot less time compared to the carbon.”
The Italian MotoGP star also said that the material used takes less time to understand and make changes for the enhancement. Another advantage is that it is more flexible than its counter material, he said.
It will be a first step towards the new era for Ducati developments. This step will also provide crucial data and the choice of material for the next season’s Desmosedici GP12.
Rossi is focused to get back in the MotoGP fight on a strong note. Previously tested components for the front end will also be used during the Motorland Aragon practice sessions. The modified front-end components showed improvement in lap times during the
Brno post race test.
