Ducati Team riders Rossi, Hayden to ride GP12 inspired GP11.1 at Assen GP – MotoGP news
Ducati Team riders Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden will get aboard the new generation of Ducati Desmosedici GP series bike at the upcoming Assen Grand Prix.
The new updated version is known to be inspired by the 2012 prototype GP12. It is called Desmosedici GP11.1 which consists of team riders approved race chassis from the GP12 model.
The Italian manufacturer has continued its focus to develop the 2012 prototype for next season’s 1000cc comeback. Valentino Rossi will head into the Iveco TT Assen Grand Prix with the new Desmosedici GP11.1. The new bike was developed after the first two
pre-season tests held at the Sepang International Circuit, earlier in 2011.
The development of the 2012 prototype and the need to improve the present GP11, the engineers came up with a mixture of both. The best qualities of GP12 have been driven into GP11. Considerably, the chassis is the one significant change made in the GP11.
Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi has been calling for more speed and eradication of under-steer characteristics since he rode the Desmosedici. He is delighted to ride with the upgrades made in his factory Ducati on the venue he likes to race at.
Rossi said, “Assen is one of my tracks – one of those that I like most and where I’ve had some nice races in all the classes. We’ll try to take advantage of that good feeling and of our experience at this circuit because Thursday morning we’ll debut some
updates to my bike that are very promising but also very fresh.”
The American rider with Ducati factory has already completed mileage on four engines and the factory team is only allowed with six power plants per season. Hayden will also be racing on the GP11.1. The step 1 stiffness chassis was debuted at the Estoril
test and now step 2 chassis will be delivered to him at the Mazda Laguna Seca circuit.
Nicky Hayden said, “There was no GP this past weekend, but the time went by pretty quickly, as I had a test at Mugello and a couple of PR appearances. Now it’s time for Assen, which is an awesome race. I have some good memories there, including a win, and
it’s a place I really like, with a lot of history and tradition.”
The new Ducati prototype will also bear a new gear system known as the Ducati Seamless Transmission. The GP11.1 will also feature a newly developed 800cc power unit, housed in the 2012 chassis. The fresh combination is hoped to deliver more power and increased
traction. These are the demands made by Italian veteran Valentino Rossi. Let’s see how the new Ducati fares in the upcoming Assen event.
