Ducati Team technical boss, Filippo Preziosi accepts inconsistency of Bologna factory – MotoGP news
Ducati Team Technical Boss, Filippo Preziosi has accepted the fact that the Ducati Team has not been steady to make developments.
Since Valentino Rossi’s complaint of under-steer, the bike has not been much different until the last round at Misano.
Preziosi has also expressed that he realises the need of a better bike in order to improve the race results. He added that presently the need is to provide a competitive bike to the team riders Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden.
Preziosi said, “In the Indy warm-up Nicky did a lap 0.3s from first and that was a good sign because it means the bike can do it. But the problem is that it was just one lap and the other lap was 1.2s slower, so it means that we have to work in order to
give something to our rider that allows them to push the bike to the limit every lap.”
In the development process, it is speculated that Valentino Rossi will be testing a new aluminium frame at Mugello this weekend. The new chassis will be tested with the Desmosedici GP12 being prepared for the 2012 MotoGP season. The new Ducati 1000cc is
comparatively slower than its rivals Honda and Yamaha.
During the Brno post race test, Honda and Yamaha tested their 1000cc prototypes. It was almost a head-to-head situation dominated by Honda RC213V. However, Ducati observed the lack of pace in their GP12 machine.
Preziosi has also said that after the Laguna Seca practice conducted by Hayden it is clear that the bike can produce impressive lap times but it lacks consistency.
He also added that the factory needs to bring out 100 percent out of the machine and any lack means loss of seconds.
After some changes in the warm up session at Misano, Rossi was able to ride along with the second pack of riders. It concludes that the bike needs to be more consistent throughout the race which allows the rider to push hard in a safe manner and stay up
close to the front.
Among other issues, the feedback to the rider is the main concern at the moment which hinders the rider to push to the extreme.
