Ducati Team’s Valentino Rossi remembers Marco Simoncelli at Valencia – MotoGP news
Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi expressed his views about the fatal incident of Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli at the Valencia pre-race press meeting.
The Italian Ducati rider was depressed on the loss of his close friend and a brilliant rider. Super Sic was said to be like a younger brother to Rossi.
Both Italian riders had a healthy friendship on and off track. Unfortunately, Rossi was involved in the crash that cost Super Sic his life.
Rossi said, “Also his mother and sister and the feeling in Italy was unbelievable but also great for Marco because a lot of people remember him and demonstrated that many people followed and liked a lot what Marco did on and off the track. I think it is
not very important but also great for his family.”
The 24-year-old Italian died during the Malaysian MotoGP round held on October 23, 2011. He suffered from fatal injuries from the crash and immediately went into a cardiac arrest.
Seven-time MotoGP champion added, “Also in a bad moment like this the atmosphere was great with a lot of people wanting to say Ciao to Marco. It is good to be here in Valencia and it is a strange feeling for everybody. But I think it is the best way to remember
Marco.”
An unpleasant crash occurred when Simoncelli unwillingly steered to the inside of the track. Colin Edwards of Yamaha Tech3 and Rossi just exited the 11th corner on second lap and hit Simoncelli.
This caused Edwards to run over his body as Simoncelli was already hanging onto his RC212V due to a low side fall.
The Texan veteran had a bad fall which dislocated his shoulder and cartilage. Now he is sidelined for the season finale which was also his last race with the Tech3 team.
From next year, Texas Tornado will be racing for Forward Racing, under Claiming Rules Team regulation.
Several types of tributes are arranged in the honour of Super Sic. The most appreciable thing is that an Italian track, the Misano World Circuit has been renamed to ‘Marco Simoncelli World Circuit.’ The Italian rider lived right next to the circuit.
