Hi I been riding for about 10 years now I been through 600cc F2, cruiser Virago 750, 600rr cbr, and my recent Yamaha R1 2005. I'm not Rossi or anything of that nature so I dont care about racing or speed. I want to just get a nice excotic bike just to cruise around and pamper. I been shopping around and my choices are the 749 Red which is a cash purchase of 8K-9K, or I can finace the new 848 for 15k give or take some. I really hate finacing! I have put them side by side and found that the 749 seem to be made with more quality it seem to be more nice like the gas tank and the seats ect.... But the 1098-848 is the new body which every one wants a new body... Also the 1098-848 is 32" seat tall and the 749-999 is 30" seat height. I'm a little shy on the height. And feel more comfortable with the 749.. What do you guys think I should do??

  2. 749 Red. You answered your own Question! Ducati makes a good bike.Have Fun!

  3. It will probably depend on how long you plan on keeping it. If you keep it forever like most Ducati owners do, or at least 10 years then you should get the 848 for the higher resale value as the 999 and 749 range was the least liked out of the 996, 999, 1098. I've even seen 998Rs and 998 FEs go for more than the newer 999s!

The 749 and 999 have superb handling and ergonomics like the seats and pegs and all that but still it was not the best liked Ducati just because of the styling. It still has a wow factor just because it looks different than most sportsbikes and the engine sound is dead gorgeous, only the MV Agusta F4 sounds better. The 848 being newer will have more horsepower and torque. In fact the 1098 has the most torque out of any sportsbike for sale right now.

If you're planning on keeping it, which you should because it's a Ducati and it's motorcycle and racing history ... than take the 848

  4. Ya, If your looking at Ducati's the 848 is the best hands down. And I'll tell you why. The 749 had many problems the bike tended to over heat and stall “Which was fixed“ and They had electrical problem “Also fixed“. The 749 uses Ducati's Dry clutch. I HATE them soo much. They can over heat and need to be changed frequently. The 848 uses a wet clutch so it will last a long time. If you look at Ducati's website the 08 bike’s require 50% less maintenance. One of the more expensive upkeeps about Ducati's is having the valve’s adjusted like 4 times a year or something. Even the 08 still need this. The 848 also has a revised oil pan that helps keep the engine lubricated during tight turns.

It's your call one's really expensive the other needs more maintinace.
