Ducati team pleased to take the relaxed rules for the testing in 2012 season – MotoGP news
Ducati Team is pleased to acknowledge that MotoGP has softened the rules for testing in the 2012 season.
The new relaxed rules will allow Ducati to run a more specific test session with factory rider, Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden.
The Bologna factory has suffered from optimally using its riders during the test session due to restricted number of tyres provided by Bridgestone.
Now with 240 tyres that make 120 sets, will allow the team to more frequently use the factory riders to evaluate and test the machines.
While talking to Motorcyclenews.com, Filippo Preziosi said, “For sure in an economical situation like we have now, to have Valentino Rossi sleeping in his room paid by us instead of riding our bike and giving us the information we need, doesn’t seem the
most efficient way to use our money.”
Preziosi also said that they need to cut down on expenses. In order to reduce cost for a season run, the test restrictions were tightened up and only 240 tyres were allotted.
This also caused to reduce the rent of the track fuel expenses and engine and spare parts usage. With respect to the limits, the team can ask its test rider or team rider to test the bike without spending any extra money because both are paid.
Ducati had a nightmare campaign in 2011 with Rossi and Hayden only scoring one podium each and Preziosi added, “It’s something that makes me not happy but the only way I know to change this is to work at the highest level we know. All of us are focused on
winning again.”
Since the season start, Rossi has been complaining that the limits on the test sessions hampered Ducati from developing its Desmosedici GP11.
The restrictions also forced the team to conduct more test time with Rossi than Hayden. Team’s test rider Franco Battaini was also used to test the Desmosedici on several occasions.
The GP Commission has also allowed the MotoGP teams to use the any rider for the purpose to complete the test session during the 2012 season. This will allow teams to efficiently complete the tests, while collecting wider feedback from different riders.
