Ducati team rider Rossi closes gap to the front at Catalunya, MotoGP news
Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi was progressive after closing up to the front at Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya.
Technical Director at Ducati Team, Filippo Preziosi also expressed the Catalan event a progressive leap. The Barcelonan round was although a little achievement but it was positive progress in right direction for the Italian rider and Ducati Team. Rossi was
fifth and teammate Nicky Hayden was eighth to finish at Montmelo circuit.
The race was delivered in different aspects the good part of the race was that Rossi able to shorten the gap from ahead and he was short apart from compatriot Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda). From other aspect fifth place finish was not quite good especially
after a third place finish at French GP. Rossi aimed a podium finish in the Catalan GP.
The Italian rider was far and accepted that the team could have performed a little better in terms to achieve better results. The crew made an immediate change in the set to be tested at warm-up session. In the wet warm-up session, the change in race setup
was useful. By the end, it was a hard decision whether to use the change or not.
The team put the new setup into the race and it was disappointing because the GP11 got unstable while tackling a corner. The bike lost traction at rear-end, which hindered Rossi from catching up Ben Spies and Andrea Dovizioso ahead of him. As a consequence,
Rossi had to stick with low pace and finish at fifth. If not applied, Rossi anticipated gaining better results at Barcelona.
Rossi said, “Anyway, we're not too far off, and we're working well, which we need to continue doing. The championship is long and we're still fully focused on both the GP11 and 2012, and we have no intention of backing off.”
After five rounds, Valentino Rossi stands at fifth place in the championship points’ table with 58 points and his American teammate, Nicky Hayden is a step down at sixth place with 47 points.
The Ducati Team is headed towards the AirAsia British Grand Prix with high expectations.
