Ducati’s Nicky Hayden hopeful of reviving 2011 MotoGP season at Motorland Aragon – MotoGP news
Ducati Team rider Nicky Hayden is hoping to get back on track from the 14th MotoGP event at Motorland Aragon in Spain.
The last Spanish GP in the calendar will take place on September 18, 2011.
Hayden said, “It probably won’t be quite as good as last year but that was clearly our best race. I’m trying to be positive and truthfully we should be closer there. The track was brand new last year and completely smooth, so we’ll see how well it has held
up.”
Due to the fresh tarmac in 2010, the track provided a lot grip to the riders. It also helped the understeering Ducati to achieve good results. In the 2010 Aragon event, Casey Stoner won the race aboard GP10 while Hayden came third after overtaking Jorge
Lorenzo in the last lap.
In Hayden’s opinion, the track is much more compatible to the style of Ducati Desmosedici. The track holds many corners with wide-open exits which help the bike to move out fast. As the understeer problem restricts the bike to turn swiftly, the free flow
bends might help this time as well.
Hayden further added, “Our bike doesn’t turn and it is hard to finish the corner, so last year after the race Filippo asked me why he thought we went so well there and it was because there was no bumps, there was a lot of grip and the corners had a lot of
open exits.”
The Kentucky kid also added that the turning is important at the Motorland Aragon but it is not important to speed up during the race.
The American rider is optimistic about the last event in Spain and feels that this weekend might be the best one in the season for the Ducati team.
However, Hayden and teammate Valentino Rossi will go to Aragon with a struggling GP11.1 and will try to recreate the magic of 2010.
At the moment, it is unlikely to achieve a double podium finish but both riders are optimistic about it.
