I know that Prince Charles has a large income from the Duchy of Cornwall. How does he collect money from that? Is it through his lands, or rents?

  1. Here is a link. Hope this helps.

  2. Why don't you visit the Prince of Wales' site at http://www.princeof wales.gov.uk/

He is a businessman who runs an organic farm and organic goods business that is quite successful. Here's some onformation from his organic goods line:

"The Prince of Wales launched his own food company, Duchy Originals, in 1992 with its first product – a biscuit made from wheat and oats grown organically on the Home Farm at Highgrove.

Since then, the company has grown to become one of the UK’s best-known and most successful organic and natural brands with over 200 different products, including selling food, drink, gardening tools and furniture.

Duchy Originals generates more than £1million in profit for charity each year.

In establishing Duchy Originals, The Prince of Wales sought to create a company that helped small farmers find a new market for their goods while offering consumers natural, high quality food and promoting more sustainable production methods that improved soil health and protected the environment. This way, The Prince aimed to create what he calls a ‘virtuous circle’.

Today, the popularity of the brand is such that in 2005 – 2006 the value of retail sales increased to £46 million and profits rose to £1.2 million, which takes the total amount provided to The Prince’s Charities Foundation by Duchy Originals to almost £6 million.

In 2006, Duchy Originals moved into manufacturing for the first time with the establishment of a Duchy Originals bakery in Launceston, Cornwall. The bakery produces a range of organic pasties and pastry products, sourcing most of the raw materials locally and providing local employment.

    The Prince's Charities Foundation

The Prince's Charities Foundation enables The Prince of Wales to give his support to a wide range of causes and projects by making charitable donations.

Established by The Prince of Wales in 1979, the Foundation was known as The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation until 2006.

The Prince's Charities Foundation is partly funded by the profits of Duchy Originals, the food company which The Prince launched in 1992. The Duchy Originals Group donates all profits to The Prince’s Charities Foundation.

Further income is derived from the Foundation’s other trading companies and the royalties from the sale of lithographs of The Prince of Wales’s watercolours, from charitable donations, from retail sales at the Highgrove Shop, from books written by His Royal Highness, such as “The Garden at Highgrove” and other fundraising activities.

The Prince’s Charities Foundation receives an ever-increasing number of requests for assistance, which are considered on a regular basis by The Prince of Wales and the trustees.  Donations are made from the Foundation to charitable causes across the United Kingdom and from his Duke of Cornwall’s Benevolent Fund within Cornwall and other areas where the Duchy of Cornwall has an interest.

More than 130 charities benefited from the £3.3 million donated by The Prince’s Charities Foundation in the year 2004 to 2005.

Donations are made to a wide range of charities including organisations working with environmental issues, health and hospices, community and welfare, education and training, heritage and the built environment, charities supporting servicemen and women and towards people affected by natural disasters."
