There's a pretty sweet animation on that site that shows the main idea of duck diving. I'd say the most important part of it is to keep your momentum up before you hit the wave and then push down with your board and put your head down.

  3. i'm born and raised on kauai in hawaii. surfing is second nature.  with a hand on either side of the board you force the tip down into the body of a coming wave following it with your body. you go under the wave instead of it crashing on you. hope this helps!!! aloha!!

  4. push the board under and go under the wave if your on a longboard u cant do this so grab both sides and roll over so the fin is up and let the wave go by

  5. The best tip I can give you for duck diving is to place your left toes on the tailpad of your board while grabbing firmly onto the upper rails of your board. Time it about two seconds before the wave hits you and force the nose of your board down towards the sand. Use your left leg as a leverage to scoop yourself back towards the surface once the wave has passed. Timing is everything. Imagine yourself making a nice deep arch under the water. If it is shallow, do not go too deep!

    Hope this helps.

  6. You gotta stop ditching your board, it is dangerous to those around you. Hold on to it as tight as you can until you learn to duck dive. Like the other posters said... push the nose down first, then kick the tail down with your foot or you knee to make it go deeper. Remember that the wave is like a barrel rolling through the water and you are trying to underneath the moving part so go deep if you can.
