Duck sauce from chinese food?

what is duck sauce made from, that comes with chinese food ..is it made from duck for real..if so how do they make duck sauce? or how is duck sauce made?

  1. Its made from apricots.

    Used for many things( including ducks and ribs).

    Theres no duck in duck sauce.

  2. Cordelius; At least in Wuxi and Shujo they have a sauce that is very similar to duck sauce just not quite as sweet. Also made from dried fruit paste.

  3. Duck sauce is sauce FOR eating duck. Its not MADE of duck. You eat duck with duck sauce.

  4. Most duck sauce is made from apricots. Some marketed brands are also made from plums.

  5. Apricots and a ridiculous amount of sugar, its not good for you at all and doesnt exist in china, only in America would they invent such a monstrosity....

  6. It is made out of prune with crystal sugar (for high quality ones),  a pure fruit paste, good for roast duck or goose.  It wont be harmful to the body if it is consume in moderate quantity. Usually for a 2lbs roasted goose, approximately only 4 dessert spoons of prune sauce will be used as dips.

  7. As for Peking duck, we serve the duck with Hoisin sauce which is made of soy bean paste, sugar, dark soy sauce and wine.

    As for other kind of roast ducks / goose, most of the them are made of plums, ginger and sugar.  Below is a question about the plums sauce in this forum, I posted my recipe and certainly you can find a few other good choices as well.
