  1. I live in California. I'm answering you in a general way. I went to

    http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/...

    I put "Duckworth" in for surname and "Lan*" for birthplace. The "*" means "any characters", so "Lan.", "Lanc", "Lancs." "Lancashire" and "Lancaster" all count. I got 759 hits. You should repeat the exercise. Try it for marriage place and death place, too.

    You'll probably have to find your grandfather's parents on your own, off the Internet, somehow, before any of the entries on RWWC (above) connect. It would be fun to go to that pub on a Saturday night, stand the oldest man in the place a pint and ask him if he knew your grandfather. You might get lucky.

    On

    http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/f...

    set

    census = 1881 British

    Surname = Duckworth

    Country = England

    County = Lancashire

    City/Town = All

    You get 200 per page with "Next Page" at the bottom. There are

    FLOCKS of them. (ho ho ho)
