i was looking at this site about geometry...and i saw these true or false questions....

The area of a paraellogram with base of 10ft and height of 2ft is 20 square ft...i know the answer is true..but i have no idea how to figure it out!

and the other statement is.

The base of a triangle with area of 36 square cm and height of 4 cm is 16cm...i know its false...but once again how do i work it out!

  1. a parallelogram is a shape with two sets of parallel lines.

    Its like a rectangle

    The formula is the same, hence, the area is the same.

    10 times 2 is 20

    therefore it is true

    the formula for a triangle is base times height divided by 2

    so

    16 x 4 is 64

    64 divided by 2 is 32

    32 does not equal 34

    therefore it is false

  2. 10 times 2 is 20... that took a lot of thought

  3. with these questions, i just flip a coin.

    look where that's gotten me :)

    (unemployed)

    just kidding, i'm still in school, and i hate it too.

  4. area of a parallelogram=base*height

    area of a triangle=1/2*area*base*height

  5. for the parallelogram, its base times height.

    for the triangle, area=1/2Base*Height, in this case 36(the area)=1/2Base*4(the height). So, 36=1/2 4x, x being the base. This equals 36=2x. x=18.

  6. The area of a quadrilateral is the length x the width. 10ftx2ft=20ft.

    So the answer is 20ft²

    The second one is false. The area of a triangle is 1/2 the abse x the height. 1/2 16x4=8x4=32 Not 36.

    So the area is 32cm²

  7. Do not worry. Geometry looks hard but it is very fun and easy if you are willing to learn it. Just by looking at it may look hard because there are other things that you learn before jumping into those type of problems.

    There are special formulas for some problems and certain ways to solve problems.

    How do you work it out? Just make sure you pay attention in school.

  8. You figure it out by plugging in the values for the side lengths into the area formula.

    Area of a parallelogram= bh

    10x2 = 20

    20 feet squared

    Area of a triangle= 1/2bh

    1/2(36)(4)

    =72 cm squared (its false)

    And there ya go....

    Hope I helped. :>

  9. how did you figure out the answers without knowing the formulas?

    -parallelogram-

    area= base x height.

      A= 10 x 2

      20 ft squared

    -triangle-

    area= .5 x base x height.

      36= .5 x ? x 4

      multiply .5 x 4

      36= 2 x ?

      divide by 2 on each side to solve.

      36/2=18

    FALSE.

    they give you the area and you are looking for the base, so the base is a ?.

  10. Just plug in your formula for both of the problems:

    Area of paraellogram = base x height = 10 ft x 2 ft = 20 square ft

    Area of triangle = ( base x height) / 2

    Base =  ( 2 x area of triangle ) / height = 72 square cm / 4 cm = 16 cm

    What you have to do is memorize the formula and practice using them.

    :P

  11. triangle formulae = (base * height) /2 = area

    just plug it in

    As for parallelagrm, cut of one of the sides

    /_  _/

    and put it on the other side to make a rectangle

    whose formulae is base * height = area

  12. its true mate coz the area of  a parelogrm is base *height

    area of a triangle is 1/2*base*height=36

       base=36*2/4=18  so i is false
