Dudi Sela, Yong-Kyu Lim move into quarterfinals – Beijing International Challengers 2011
Number one seed Dudi Sela of Israel eased past Chinese Di Wu 6-2, 6-2 on Thursday to make it to the quarterfinals of 2011 Beijing International Challengers Series here in Beijing, China. The top-seeded Israeli tennis pro looked
in commanding form at the hard courts of City’s Tennis Centre as he required only one hour and three minutes dispatching his opponent.
Sela looked in a very attacking mood as he smashed his ferocious forehand and backhand winners all over the court in a completely one sided contest. Breaking the serve twice, he raced to an impassable 5-2 lead in the set, serving
for the match. Showing some great hard court skills on his next service game, the 26-year-old pocket the opening set to take 1-0 lead in the set score.
Di Wu looked a bit out of sorts as he struggled to get any timing on his shots what so ever. Looking short of answers, the Chinese lacked fire power in certain areas of the game. It will be fair to say that he was unprepared for
this meeting as he had no game plan against a quality opponent.
Sela continued to display top quality tennis in the following set as well. Breaking his rival early in the second set, he put himself in driving position in the match. Leading the game score 4-1, he converted his second break chance
to take 5-1 lead. Holding on to his next service game in an emphatic fashion, he closed out the match in straight sets. Ranked 86th in the Association of Tennis Professionals rankings, Sela will be looking to maintain his form in his upcoming matches
at the tournament as well to claim his first ATP title of the year.
Firing three serves aces and converting 87 per cent of the points on his first serve, Sela played a very controlled match. Converting four out of six break points during the contest, the Israeli made most of the available opportunities.
Wu’s defence was weak as he managed to save only two out of six break points in the match. He was also unable to play hi A game on the big points as he failed to win any of the four break points he had in the match.
In another match, Korean tennis pro Yong-Kyu Lim secured a thumping 6-3, 6-4 victory over Hiroki Moriya of Japan to enter third round of the tournament.
Lim broke the serve at regular intervals in a match that lasted for only one hour and 31 minutes. Dominating his opponent in almost all aspects of the game, the Korean booked a quarterfinal berth at the ATP Challengers event.
