Question:

Due to higher gas prices, are you planning a STAYcation (stay at home) instead of a VAcation this summer?

The sad thing is that many Americans (inlcuding my former neighbors across the street) have been forced out of their homes because of our developing Second Great Depression, and have no homes left where they can have even a STAYcation.

  1. STAYcation for me.  Several people in my family can't even afford to go to their jobs anymore and are looking for things closer to home.  Most of us have taken to riding the bus.  A trip to a theme park or a historical landmark is out of the question.

On the bright side, STAYcations (I love that word, by the way--thanks for putting it out there;)) aren't so bad.  Reminds me of my childhood, where the entire summer was spent either watching cartoons or idling around the neighborhood barefoot, seeing if I really could boil an egg on the sidewalk.  (You really can't, by the way.  But it was fun trying.)  And the family bonding that went on, that has lasted a lifetime.  When all you have for entertainment is your mother and little brother, you tend to grow close.  The best things in life really are free.

  2. no,staycation will be expensive

  3. i saw that on the news in KY/Cinci about StayCations.

and memorial day is one of the MOST travelled holidays....they said 39 MILLION have turned to StayCation instead and doin something closer to home.....

I always do things with my kiddies ....but theres tons of things within a 100 to 200 mi radius too! Dollywood, Nashville, Kings Island, Gatlinburg, etc....

  4. haha funny word. well yes we are staying location this mem w/e but prob going away j 4th

  5. We're planning a wonderful STAYcation in the back yard!!!

  6. No choice but to travel - going to my grandson's graduation!  I'll just have to find other ways to economize, but some things are worth every cent and to watch him graduate is one of those things!

  7. Got rid of my 18MPG car (Had 180,000 miles), and got a 40MPG car. Headed to the beach and cost less than last year. Saving pollution and saving money. Next car will be hopefully one of those European diesels that get 60-70MPG (If our "Environmentalists" will ever allow them in).

  8. well not really although i'm on the edge of breakin up with a car and driving a bike...lol

  9. Cute phrase!! :) But not so cute gas prices :(

We'll pick and choose our trips.... we're driving a 6 hr. trip in June to a friend's daughter's wedding.... making a mini vacation of it...  but other little trips we're cutting out and back on..... we certainly think twice before hittin' the road these days! And we've cut out eating out as much to allow for the gas prices.... kinda fun to bring cooler in car and stop at store and load up on our own much healthier and cheaper snacks!! Isn't everything attitude?? Bet the oil execs don't cut back on their lifestyles............ shame on their greedy butts!!!!!!!

  10. We planned our vacay much before all this happened.  We're going BUT every time we turn around the airfare is up $22 or so due to fuel surcharge.  If we weren't already committed our vacay would be a staycation

  11. staycation because my gaurdian said he didnt have the money to drive places except work.
