Since nothing is certain, how can there be best answers chosen on the opinion questions? It seems to me that a lot of people in the philosophy just come here to end thoughts that their uncomfortable thinking about. Shouldnt it be called most similiar idea to was i was thinking, instead of best answer?

  1. There are things that are certain, but that is off topic. People don't always just choose the answer that confirms what they were thinking. Sometimes the "best answer" doesn't even have to answer the question at all. For example, I once answered a question by just joking around and not answering anything; totally ignoring the main question (like toogethr answered yours) and got best answer. The best answer is just the "best" because it either is the most funny, answers the question most completely in the askers mind, or introduces new, suprising insight to the situation which the asker had not thought of before.

Besides, "most similar idea to what I was thinking" is too long. Why would you even propose an alternative as ludicrous as that?

  2. It's true; many come on here and award points to those who simply mirror their own views.  But that's a bit pessimistic, don't you think?  Certainly, there are some who award points because someone made a convincing argument for an opposing view, or for someone who caused the asker to change their own mind.  We can't know whom is which in this forum, and I suspect therein lies your frustration.  Me?  I try to give the benefit of the doubt and hope that folks are honoring the true spirit of this forum :)

  3. The speed of light is certain.  It's 300K kilometers per second.  In all frames of reference.  Anywhere in the Universe.  On that you can depend.
