If so what does that mean spiritually? Biblically? Psychologically?

  1. What recent climate change? The one where the average worldwide temperature has increased a whopping .5 degrees in the last 50 years ? End of days ?  You mean the experiment is over ?????

  2. No grasshopper

  3. The climate is changing....This has happened before and will no doubt happen again. We might be in for a real roller-coaster ride but if we are in it together I think we will make it.

  4. This is nothing.  Come talk to me when a large meteor hits the earth or someone drops a nuclear bomb.

  5. Well, if we are dumb enough to keep depending on oil then yes, I'd say our time is near. That is, if we adapt.

Like George Carlin said, "the planet is fine, the people are f**ked."

  6. No, climate change hasn't picked up in speed yet, and as a species, we're reasonably good at not destroying the resources that we're going to need to survive in the near future.  (rotfl if you like, but the fact is, it's true.)   I think the next hundred years could get very unpleasant if we don't learn to plan better.  I think problems in the world's food supplies are already driving the world's poor to the brink of starvation in some places, and that's a dangerous state for us all.

Fact is, I can't fix all that.  You can't fix all of that.  It's overwhelming to try, which makes the idea of the slate being wiped clean seem like a real relief.  Psychologically and spiritually, we don't want to ignore all the little challenges, like not being a polluter, donating to charity to lift people up from hunger.. but it's obvious there's no way to do the right thing on all fronts.

Strangely enough, what can help us understand is looking back.  History puts the trouble of our own times frighteningly into perspective.  Could you imagine living in the US in the 1840s?  The evils of slavery have swept through the world, and it's becoming obvious that your country will tear itself apart before letting it go...  Democracy and civil rights are still rare, slightly bizarre concepts, and it doesn't seem all that likely that they'll last if the country falls to civil war.  Doctors didn't understand hygiene for surgery, much less for every day life, people died young, and died easy.  Mothers tended to have several extra children, partially because babies died so easily...  but of course, they could easily die having them.    When Henry Miller came though preaching End of Days at the time, wouldn't you have been tempted to listen?
