Due to the very expected death of my camcorder...expected because I just bought $200 worth of accessories for it and it's a law of the universe that S**t has to happen, which new camcorder for under $500 should I buy?

Size doesn't matter. Quality counts.

  1. I'd go with any Canon or Sony camcorder that uses MiniDV (requires FireWire).  The reason I would choose MiniDV is for the quality you get with that.  Why would I choose Canon or Sony?  Well, I've had great experiences with both Canon and Sony camcorders.

  2. Since you bought all those accessories for your other camcorder, you may want to purchase a similar but more updated model.   This would allow you to continue using those accessories with no loss in value.

What was the model that succumbed to an early demise?
