I want to go to school in the UK and want to get my citizenship there as well. By then I will be over 18. However, I want to start the process when I turn 18 so that I can be finished with the whole procedure before I go to college in england. Can I complete that process from the US? Can I also keep my US citizenship?

  1. haha.. william what a funny guy.. well i think you need to ask some UK official or something i dont think you can do this all over the phone.. you need to travel there and be living their in order to get your citizenship.. or i dont know try asking some official or do some research.

  2. YES you can keep your US citizenship.

USA and UK both allow dual citizenship.

USA just does not publicly recognize it.

They enforce this by demanding that all US citizens show a US passport when they re-enter the county.

  3. Better watch out. Me and my scotbuddies are watching you. We don't like the English in America, and neither do we like the English in England.

    TELL THEM SCOTLAND IS FREE!!

  4. What are your ties with the UK?  Is one of your parents a UK citizen? Unless you have some ties to there, you will just have to immigrate like anybody else, you'd have to be over 18, qualify for a student visa or work permit, live there for a number of years, get permanent residency, live there for some more years and apply for citizenship.

You can have US and UK dual citizenship, that is not a problem.

  5. 1) yes you can keep your US citizenship.

    2) on what basis are you applying for British citizenship? We need to know the circumstances in order to give a correct answer.
