  1. If Brazil recognizes dual citizenship, then yes, you can.  The United States does not recognize dual citizenship, but it allows you to keep another citizenship along with American citizenship.

I was born in Canada, but my mother is American.  I am both American and Canadian.  However, when I cross the US border, I cannot say that I am a dual citizen.  I have to say that I am American, and show my American passport.  I was told this at the American consulate in Vancouver the last time I renewed my passport.  When I cross from the US into Canada, I have to tell the Canadian border that I am Canadian.

  2. Both the US and Brazil allow Dual citizenship. So yes you can. It is very difficult to lose your US citizenship if you were born here of US citizens.

  3. Yes, you can have dual citizenship.   It's legal in both the US and Brazil.

  4. Brazil allows so but

    Remember

None can serve two master and not being force to take side sooner or later

Dual citizenship in that case it not like the  European UNion , giving up citizenship to become a New Country , Europe

Brazil does not plan to join into the American Union so

Citizenship is about identity and loyalty

Dual loyalty sooner of later become sour

  5. Well, Brazil recognises dual citizenship but the United States does not.  So I guess if you lived in Brazil they government there would also recognise your United States citizenship, but the United States would not recognise your citizenship in Brazil. However, many people have been able to keep their citzenship in other countries while being citizens of the United States (Albert Einsten kept his Swiss citizenship while he lived in the United States until the day he died.)

  6. The law of the United States no longer prohibits someone from holding dual nationality.  There is no "list" of countries with which one is allowed to hold dual nationality.

Many other countries prohibit dual nationality, however.  Brazil is not one of these; a Brazilian citizen may acquire citizenship from another state, and the government of Brazil will not care.  The only rule in both cases is that the American and Brazilian governments will both treat you as though their nationality is the only one you hold, particularly when you are within the respective country's borders.

  7. I think you can have a duel citizenship in Brazil. If Brazil is allowed a duel citizenship status, you are certainly okay. Nowadays, many peoples in this world are duel citizens. However, if you are frequently travel for pleasure, you may get some trouble in the future. I think after 911 terror attack, the US immigration occasionally picked some unpopular or suspicious travellers holding two or more passports. The followings happened in the past with unpleasant events.

  8. I know someone who adopted from africa, and they were offered duel citizenship, but the catch is, if war breaks out in their birth country and the child is at fighting age, the could be drafted in that country, its not worth it.

  9. haha "duel" citizenship?  I sincerely doubt you can gain citizenship through challenging someone to a gunfight.  But give it a shot anyway.

P.S. - Embassy websites often have citizenship info.

  10. dual citizenship is sadly not recognized by the U.S., but Brazil recognizes it. So basically, if you move to Brazil, the U.S. will not recognize both citizenships, but Brazil will.  Good luck!

  11. It is possible to have dual citizenship depending on the countries involve.....
