Ireland defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Shane-Duffy-c33246 thinks that his team’s disparagement following their disastrous Euro 2012 campaign was unwarranted for, insisting that their failure in the tournament did not mean that they were a ‘poor team’.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 during the group stages. All in all, they managed to score just a single goal during the entire campaign
and conceded 9.
Consequently, Ireland were subjected to severe criticism over their apparent failure to even compete with the other teams in the group, with some people going as far as ruling out their chances of qualifying for the World Cup 2014 scheduled to be played
in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858.
However, the 20-year old insisted that even though Ireland’s Euro campaign turned out to be a complete catastrophe, other teams like Holland, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032 met the same fate, but that does not mean that all of them were poor teams.
While talking to reporters, he said: “People shouldn't be criticising the team so much. Look at the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753; one of the best teams in the world and they also lost all their games.”
“They played poorly, but that doesn't make them a poor team does it? The same applies to Ireland.”
Duffy, who was not a part of the squad which competed in the European Championships, also caste light on the fact that the Boys in Green managed to qualify for the coveted European event at the first place-which itself was an indication of their calibre
and potential.
The centre back was loaned out to Scunthorpe United last season by Everton, where he went on to make 18 appearances. He made a return to Goodison Park in January and made his first start in the Premier League against Aston Villa in January.
However, Duffy revealed his aim of securing a place in the Toffees regular starting line-up in the coming season. He also claimed that if he fails to do so, he plans on spending another loan spell with a Championship side in order to get more exposure on
the field.
He added, “Obviously my aims are to play regular football for the full season. And hopefully I can break into the first team of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043. That's the main goal.”
He also let out his delight to see the Irish side Shamrock http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 make it into the Europa League group stages, and was hopeful that more clubs from his country would be able to achieve the same feat this season.
