Dufner, Zach Johnson, Hunter Mahan and Brandt Snedeker – latest additions to the Hyundai Tournament of Champions
The 2012 PGA winners, Jason Dufner, Zach Johnson, Hunter Mahan and Brandt Snedeker, have all committed to participate in the 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
The PGA Tour’s season-opener will be staged at the Plantation Course at Kapalua, featuring a strong line-up, vying for a share of the US$5.7 million prize fund.
The Hyundai Tournament of Champions is known for attracting top-notch players each year, because of its format.
Only the winners from the past PGA Tour season can participate in the event, making the competition more interesting to watch.
Earlier this month, the reigning Masters champion Bubba Watson, Keegan Bradley and Ian Poulter also confirmed their participation in the PGA Tour’s season-opener.
Snedeker is one of four players who recorded more than one victory in 2012 and have now committed to display their skills in Kapalua.
The American secured his first victory of the 2012 PGA Tour season by defeating Kyle Stanley in the playoffs of the Farmers Insurance Open in January.
He then spent the whole season without a win, until he made a strong comeback by taking home the fourth and the last tournament in the US PGA FedEx Cup Playoffs, the Tour Championship.
Snedeker posted a 10-under par tournament score, to record a three-stroke victory over Justin Rose, which also allowed him to become the FedEx Cup champion for the first time in his career.
Nancy Cross, the tournament’s Executive Director, expressed his pleasure in announcing the new additions to the tournament.
She said that the presence of the 2012 FedEx Cup winner and the reigning Masters champion will make the competition more exciting.
Moreover, it will also allow the tournament officials to attract more golf lovers to visit the course and watch their favourite players playing live in front of them.
“We're thrilled to announce Jason Dufner, Zach Johnson, Hunter Mahan and Brandt Snedeker will compete in the 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions,” Cross said. “All four players are great additions to the Hyundai Tournament of Champions field and will bring
excitement to Kapalua as we kickoff the 2013 FedExCup season on the PGA TOUR”.
