Dulko/ Pennetta get rid of Begu/ Rodionova in quarterfinal – Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011
Number two seeded team of Argentinean Gisela Dulko with Italian Flavia Pennetta whipped Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu with Australian Anastasia Rodionova in the doubles quarterfinal of Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011. On Thursday, the
29th of September the squads duelled on hard courts of the Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan. The higher ranked team of Dulko/ Pennetta got rid of Begu/ Rodionova in simply forty three minutes to make it into the semi final, winning in straight sets
of 6-1, 6-1.
Opting to serve first was the Argentinean/ Italian mix, after they had won the service pitch. The seeded team was successful in winning on their first service game and easily placed themselves on the scoreboard at 1-0.  Dulko/
Pennetta broke their opponents in the second game and were leading with a mini break.
However, they were unable to capitalize on the mini break as Begu/ Rodionova broke back in the very next game and did not let the Argentinean/ Italian to secure a lead. Nevertheless, the second seeded squad were not going to let
go that easily and took on their A-game by utilizing the break-serve-break technique.
Dulko/ Pennetta broke their adversaries in the fourth and then again in the sixth game to further increase the lead with a score of 5-1. Serving for the opening set, the second seeded players held their serve by smashing a forehand
shot down the line and by doing so; they conquered the opening set with a breadstick victory.
Dominating from the very start Dulko/ Pennetta benefitted from an early break in the first game and as they held serve in the second, they rolled the score board at 2-0. In the following two games the teams won on alternate serves
at the scoreboard moved at 3-1. Dulko/ Pennetta again broke their adversaries in the fifth game to take a lead of 4-1, they then further add a game to their score as they held their serve in the sixth.
By the end of the sixth game, the second seeded team had restricted their opponents to only a game and were anxious to break Begu/ Rodionova in the seventh. As Rodionova/ Begu served they hit a long crosscourt and endorsed the
Argentinean/ Italian mix with the match point.
Although, Dulko/ Pennetta had not smashed a single ace, they had managed to minimize their double faults and with by targeting 71 percent of their first serve shots, they bagged a breadstick victory.
The second seeded Dulko/ Pennetta will now be facing third seeded team of Yaroslava Shvedova with Vania King in the semi final.
