Dullahan getting ready for some glory in the $1 million TVG Pacific Classic at Del Mar
Trained by Dale Romans, Dullahan is gearing up for his appearance in the Grade 1, $1 million TVG Pacific Classic, which will be hosted at Del Mar on 26th August, 2012.
Recently, the sophomore has been off his game, but it seems like he will make a breakthrough in the grand-event.
At Churchill Downs, he efficiently bolted through his work-out and completed five furlongs in 1:00 1/5 seconds on 11th August, 2012. With exercise jockey Faustino Aguilar, he clocked in the fastest time he possibly could.
On 21st July, 2012, the runner completed the distance of five furlongs in 59.80 seconds also at Churchill Downs, which is the fastest time he recorded in his last four starts.
Owned by Donegal Racing, the colt succeeded in the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland in April, 2012, which covered a distance of 1 1/8 miles.
As a juvenile he won the Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity Stakes at the same track over 1 1/16 miles in October 2011.
The son of Even the Score claimed both his starts on the Polytrack at Keeneland, and running for the first time at Del Mar, Dullahan might relish the fact that the Del Mar’s most richest race is run over on the Polytrack.
With an overall record of 2-2-3 in 11 starts and collective earnings worth $1,102,091, he looks determined to win more.
Regarding the synthetic surfaces, trainer Dale Romans told the press that:
"He obviously likes the Polytrack, and this (Pacific Classic) was our best opportunity to get him back on it in a big race.”
According to Jerry Crawford, head of the Donegal Racing partnership told the press that Dullahan will be making the journey "as soon as we can get a plane organized."
It is no doubt that the runner has an immense amount of talent, which has come out on the track time and time again. He finished third in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, seventh in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes in June, 2012.
At the Haskell Invitational, he failed to impress when he finished fifth where the victory was claimed by the Bob Baffert trained, Paynter on 29th July, 2012.
