Dumb question, do you have to have a licenses in the state of tennessee to ride a 150cc scooter?

My grandpa just bought a 150cc scooter and my dad and I are arguing about if you have to have a licenses or not lol.

  1. If it is 50cc or smaller you only need a drivers license. Anything beyond that requires a motorcycle permit/endorsment in most states.


  2. You have to have a permit to ride it on the road.

  3. Yes... if you are in Nashville you do not have to have a motorcycle license to ride a 125cc scooter.  A 125cc scooter will have very close to the same top speed as a 150cc scooter... just something to think about.

I live in GA.  This is what I did: I went and spoke with the city police chief.  Down here, anything over a 50cc you have to have MCL for (tag, insurance, etc.) one.  For 50cc and under you just have to have a regular DL, but you don't have to have a tag, insurance, etc.  It will surely pay for itself with today's gas prices!
