Indian head coach, Duncan Fletcher, has advised struggling opener Gautam Gambhir to adopt a positive approach in order to come out of his ongoing batting slump.
Gambhir continued his poor run in the second Test following his previous below par performance with the bat in the opening Melbourne Test. In the first innings of the Sydney Test, the left-handed opener left the crease with a three-ball duck.
The Kangaroo pacers troubled the tourists with both pace and swing, restricting the opposition to paltry 191. Since a good start was required to achieve a decent total on a difficult SCG wicket, Fletcher rued over Gambhir’s ordinary performance.
The coach explained that the left-hander is under pressure, and therefore he is unable to play his natural game. He also asked the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 batsman to be a lot more positive when he goes out to bat in the second innings.
"As for Gautam, we are working on him to be very positive. It's more mental, he's been very tentative, pushing at deliveries. He's an attacking batter and needs to be a lot more positive in his approach. As for today's ball, it would've been difficult to
leave a delivery pitching on leg and going across you. A lot of left-handers could've been out to it," Fletcher said after first day’s play at Sydney.
In reply to India’s small total, the Aussies were on 116 for the loss of three wickets at stumps on Day-1. A lacklustre performance by the batting line-up has become an aching issue for Team Blue.
And, Fletcher admitted that the guys are yet to adapt to the seaming condition in Australia. While Fletcher expressed disappointment over his side’s pathetic show so far on the tour Down Under, he was not reluctant to give full credit to the hosts.
He praised Australia's pace attack, and stated that the Aussie side has developed into a dangerous crew.
"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has a useful bowling unit at the moment. They've bowled well. At times, our bowling attack has too. If they gain experience, they will be as useful a unit as Australia is,” added the former Zimbabwean skipper.
