Coach of the Indian cricket team, Duncan Fletcher, has admitted that his team should have bowled better in the cloudy conditions on day one of the first Test match between England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Lords.
The historic Test match between the two countries is currently under progress and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 is in the driving seat at the moment after a brilliant batting display by the English top order.
This match has a lot of significance as it is the 2000th Test match of the history of the game and the 100th Test between England and India.
For Fletcher, this match is even more important as it is his 100th Test as a coach of an International team.
The Indian coach believes that his team should have picked up one or two more wickets on day one. The ball was swinging all over the place but the Indian bowlers just managed to pick up a couple of scalps on the first day.
Fletcher said, “From our point of view, we would have been happy with three wickets. Two indicated we could have bowled better lengths. With it swinging around a bit, it was hard for some of the bowlers to get used to that swing and get their lines right.”
On a rain affected day at the Lords, England scored 127 runs for the loss of a couple wickets, after India won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Fletcher was all praise for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IJL-Trott-c1576, who remained the wall between the Indian bowlers and the English middle order batsmen.
However, the Indian coach is still happy about his team’s performance on day one but feels that the situation could have been much better if the Indian team had grabbed a couple half chances.
“Trott showed he is a quality batsman. He showed calmness at the wicket and his statistics over the last year show he is a very good Test player. We are happy with the situation we find ourselves in. I am really pleased to get through. I had a let-off once
or twice. That's cricket,” he added.
