Duncan Fletcher will attend selection committee meeting to select team for West Indies tour
India's newly appointed coach, Duncan Fletcher, is expected to be present at the Indian selection committee meeting, scheduled to be held at Chennai on Friday, May 13, 2011.
According to reports, the committee will be short listing players for the upcoming West Indies tour.
The Indian team is scheduled to visit the Caribbean next month in order to play three Tests, five One-Day Internationals and a Twenty20 match.
A top official of the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI), told media that Fletcher will be arriving in India on Friday to attend the meeting in order to finalise the names of players for the forthcoming tour.
The official, on the condition of anonymity, stated, "But the BCCI is very cautious on Fletcher's issue and want to keep him away from the media glare. Fletcher prefers to stay low-profile, specially in media. His attitude toward the media during his stint with the English team is well known."
Meanwhile, the Board official made it clear that all the senior players have ensured their availability for the selection.
"Till now none of the senior players has approached us requesting to rest them for the series in the West Indies," the official added.
The BCCI appointed former Zimbabwean skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527 left the post.
The BCCI decision faced a mixed response from the cricket experts. The Indian legends, Sunil Gavaskar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kapil-Dev-c70234, slammed the decision and cited it as an irrational step.
The 62-year-old Fletcher, who led Rhodesians in their first ever International match, will not be available for the West Indies tour. It has already been announced that the coach will charge after the Caribbean series due to some personal commitments.
Indian players have been playing cricket continuously for the last few months. The lucrative Indian Premier League started just six days after the ICC World Cup 2011 and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 tour is also going to start six days after the Twenty20 league’s final.
