Indian coach, Duncan Fletcher, is a relieved man after his side’s emphatic 4-1 victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the recently concluded five-match One Day International series (ODI) in the Island country.
The Men in Blue outclassed their Asian neighbours in a lop-sided series, leaving their coach thrilled to finally see his players responding in tight situations with both, bat and in ball.
Fletcher’s coaching stint with India hasn’t been very promising after taking over from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527, who left after leading the team to their first World Cup triumph in 28 years.
The 63-year-old had a difficult first year where his side suffered two Test whitewashes in the away-series against England and Australia. The Asian Giants also failed to make it to the finals of the Commonwealth Bank series and were later knocked out of
the Asia Cup by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
The former Zimbabwean captain was severely criticised by cricket fans and experts in India, which led to rumors that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might reconsider their contract with the Fletcher.
"It is always difficult after you have had a very successful year like that, when you have won the World Cup," the Coach said.
Fletcher became the first foreigner to coach an English side in 1999, and despite a tough initial period, he led the side to some spectacular victories, the pinnacle being the Ashes in 2005, which came after a 16-year drought.
"I have been involved with another side [http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013] that did the same thing; afterwards, after having had a successful series, to maintain that sort of intensity is quite difficult because sides tend to sit back a bit.”, he further added.

"One must also consider that since [then we] have only had one series in India. We haven't played [much] in India which is where they are very strong like any side is,” the coach concluded.
