Duncan Fletcher, the newly appointed Indian coach, has expressed deep concerns over the slow and flat practice pitch, provided by the hosts, ahead of Team India’s 1st Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at Sabina Park, Kingston, on June 20, 2011.
Reportedly the practice pitch is entirely different from the wicket on which the match is going to be played today.
During Team India practice session yesterday, Fletcher visited the ground and was infuriated by the condition of the practice pitch. He reportedly exchanged harsh words with the groundsmen and might go ahead to file a complaint with the International Cricket
Council (ICC).
Sabina Park has a bouncy and fast wicket to offer for the 1st Test, but the practice pitch provided to the Indian side was quite slow. Some analysts opine that the Windies are eager to use their pace strength coupled with a bouncy wicket to their favour
in the coming match.
As was evident in the final ODI, the Indians could not defend the pace attack of the hosts and collapsed badly. Fletcher fears that the same demise again.
The Indians, despite being the top-ranked Test team of the world, are always prone to pace whether at home ground or abroad. On the other hand, they play spinners very well.
This weakness can be traced back to Indian grounds, which have dry and flat pitches, which do not produce http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-James-Muchall-c60376 bounce and pace.
The Caribbean skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Julius-Garvey-Sammy-c52468, got the venue of Sabina Park for the last ODI after prolonged insistence, as he knew the Indian weakness. His strategy proved to be successful and the Windies won the game.
The 5-match ODI series was concluded on June 16 with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 winning 3-2. Now, the 3-match Test series is going to start today.
The lucky and triumphant Indian captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820, has rejoined the squad after rest during the ODI series and Fletcher has great confidence on his leadership skills.
Fletcher is reported to have said, “I have studied Dhoni closely over the years, and these days I am impressed with every single aspects of what he does.”
Fletcher replaced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011, which the Blue Shirts won under his coaching.
