http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527, who stepped down from his job after India’s triumph in the ICC World Cup 2011.
According to a source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), “He (Fletcher) has been invited to attend the selection committee meeting for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 tour in Chennai on May 13. He is reaching Chennai on May 13 and will leave for SA the
next day.”
Indian cricketers are currently taking part in the cash rich, Indian Premier League (IPL). However, no player has asked for rest for the upcoming tour of the Caribbean. The source in the board added, “We presume all senior players are available for the tour.
We are world champions and we don't want to be losers by sending a weak team.”
The Men in Blue have been doing a terrific job in all three formats of the game and Kirsten is mainly credited for that. The team climbed up in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC’s) Test and One Day International (ODI) rankings, to number one and two
respectively.
The cricket authorities in India wanted Kirsten to continue his coaching role for the team, but he had announced his resignation before the start of the World Cup. The former opening batsman wanted to give time to his family back home and didn’t change his
decision even after India’s success in the Mega Event. He will be eying a similar job in his national side, which has struggled to perform in major tournaments.
Fletcher will have a tough task ahead to carry onto the work done by Kirsten. His first assignment with the team will be the tour of West Indies where the team will play one Twenty20, five ODIs and three Test matches. India has a poor record of playing away
from home and their coach will be eying to improve on that.
The Windies are currently hosting a complete series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and have lost the five-match ODI series 3-2. They will be looking to perform better in the longest version of the game, in order to get a good preparation ahead of their series against
the world champions.
