Dundee United defender blasts referee
Dundee United defender Garry Kenneth has hit out at referee Mike Tumilty, claiming that the whistler failed to issue a blatant red card to Daniel Majstorovic and award United a penalty.
The sides met at Celtic Park on Saturday 20 November in a Scottish Premier League clash. The home side took the lead in the 23rd minute through Gary Hooper, but the goal was cancelled out in the fourth minute of injury time by United defender Sean Dillon.
Despite grabbing a point with a late goal that Kenneth believed was retribution for a late winner scored by Hooper when the sides met five weeks ago, the Scotland international was disappointed that the Terrors could not take all three points and pointed
to an incident involving Majstorovic and David Goodwillie as the turning point.
Majstorovic and United forward Goodwillie clashed inside the area after 73 minutes and the Sweden international was not punished by Tumilty. Kenneth, who was booked for dissent after remonstrating with the official over the incident, claims that if the same
situation had happened with him and Hooper, he would have been sent off.
He told reporters: "It was a definite penalty. I got a foul against me in the corner for exactly the same thing and yet Goodie was in on goal. (Tumilty) also had to send Majstorovic off. I was booked for dissent but I don't know how you can get booked for
that when you're asking a question.
“Goodie was in on goal and it was a sending-off but the ref saw it differently. I don't know if the ref was under pressure. I can't say but he didn't give the decision and we had to go with it. We deserved at least a draw. It feels like a win because we
worked so hard. But we should have won it."
