Dundee United manager reveals striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Goodwillie close to Blackburn Rovers move
Peter Houston, the Dundee United manager, revealed 22-year-old striker David Goodwillie was close to a move to English Premier League side Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385. It is most likely for this reason that Goodwillie was left out of the clash against Hearts over the weekend, which Houston’s side went on to win 1-0.
Blackburn Rovers have reportedly agreed to an initial fee of £2 million for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scotland-c756 international, with an additional £800,000 for add-ons and the sell-on clause. The Dundee United manager said he was certain the young forward was on his way to Blackburn Rovers.
Houston said while speaking to reporters:
“I'm led to believe he's just about there with Blackburn.”
Houston admitted he had not known anything of the probable move until the very last minute, even though he was aware Goodwillie was close to an exit. With the two sides apparently having reached an agreement, the deal is set to be finalized soon.
He continued:
“I know I'm losing David, I knew David wasn't going to be playing and I wanted to focus on the Hearts game.
I just spoke briefly to the chairman and he says it's almost there and it could happen tomorrow [Sunday]. I don't think it will happen today [Monday].”
The manager admitted he wanted to hold on to the Scottish striker for another season or two, but urged Goodwillie to leave Scotland if he was going to change clubs. Instead of making a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314, Houston felt a move to Blackburn Rovers would be better for the player.
Houston said:
“It would've been David's decision.
The only point I made about the Rangers or Celtic thing was the fact I didn't think Glasgow would be the right place to be.”
However, he said he was not entirely sure as to whether or not Goodwillie would manage to cement his place in the starting XI at Ewood Park. Even though he has the quality and the potential to play in the English Premier League, the forward has had some issues off the field.
Houston added:
“I don't know if he'll play every week in the Premiership. I think David will become a Premiership player in due time, if he's going to the Premiership.”
Even if Goodwillie does not have an instant impact for the Rovers in the Premier League, he will most definitely go on to become a notable player in the near future. The Scotland forward did fairly well in his six year spell at Dundee United.
Goodwillie began his senior career at Dundee United in the 2006-2007 season, and apart from a year loan move to Raith Rovers in 2007-2008, has been at the club all his life. He has made 123 appearances in all competitions and has scored 38 goals.
